As part of my Rebuilding Neighborhoods plan, I am proposing a concept to adjust our assessments to rebuild our roads from the pipes up. Up to this point, we’ve done some minor mill-and-fill patching of streets. Meanwhile the aging infrastructure well below our streets continue to face challenges. Replacing the pipes makes sure no water is going in your basement. Repaving the road on top of those pipes makes sure you can get back to your dry basement without blowing out your car tires. As we make these repairs, you are helping us invest in your property. We currently assess for snow shoveling and leaf pick up. That will stop. Those costs will be paid from the General Fund – like they’re supposed to be. And we will shift the assessments to something that gives you an immediate return on your investment.
