Want to learn a little more about Tom? The University of Toledo and the Alumni Association recognize the most outstanding alumni at the annual Homecoming Gala. In 2014, Tom Waniewski, '78, received the College of Communication & The Arts Outstanding Alumnus Award. Here is a video, which was shown at the gala, celebrating his accomplishments.
I have not been a career politician. I am an Emmy Award winning investigative reporter, a successful business owner, and supporter of our non-profit agencies. I am serving my last term on council (through 2019).
My experience in business, service to community, and time in government has provided me with unique insights on what works and where we must make improvements in city government in order to advance.
I care deeply about my hometown and believe strongly that city government needs to do a better job of serving constituents and not serving itself.
When I ran for mayor I condensed my ideals into three core competencies I felt were necessary for operating a city with a $600 million budget. Despite an unsuccessful campaign for mayor, I'm continuing to concentrate on these three areas that , I believe, will result in a more responsive and efficient local government.
- Rethink City Government
- Rebuild Our Neighborhoods
- Restore Confidence
"Tom is a man of character, vast competence, vision, and an abiding faith in the potential of Toledo."
Mark Wagoner—Former State Senator and Member of Ohio Republican State Central Committee
"I am grateful that you took the complaints that citizens had regarding this issue and was able to bring it to the table for a fair compromise. Again, thank you for helping to solve this issue not just for my family but also for the other citizens of Toledo."
— Ben Southworth (On Urban Agriculture legislation Tom drafted)
