The reaction from others is the same ol' same ol'. Who DOESN'T want more police officers?! With police and fire making up 85 percent of our budget, the question is how do we pay for more. My plan, announced in April, calls for implementing portions of the Reinbolt Report, eliminate redundancies, reduce the number of officers baby-sitting our tow lot, and untie TPD's hands to hire more officers without the bureaucracy. This is about having an effective talent acquisition strategy. Out of 40 candidates for this most-recent class, only 28 made it to the end. One-third couldn't pass subsequent tests. We need to recruit better and hire more of THE BEST (like those who graduated last week). Period.
